Cumberland FA - developing football for everyone
Development - take your skills to the next level

Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football

This is the first step towards becoming a recognised football coach. On successful completion of the course, you will recognised as an assistant club coach enabling you to work alongside a qualified Level 2 coach. The Level 1 qualification provides you with an opportunity to study and be assessed in both practical, and theoretical aspects of coaching football at this level.

Who?
If you are over 16 years of age, and looking for an introduction to working with grassroots football teams, or the parent of a child in a junior team and want to get more involved, then this course is ideal for you.

Why?
This first rung on the coaching ladder provides candidates with an introduction to offering the principles and practice of safe, ethical, and effective management and coaching of football to adults and young people, as an assistant usually under the supervision of a Level 2 qualified coach.

This qualification offers an opportunity for aspiring football coaches to be supported in developing their knowledge of how to effectively coach a local club or school team, and is also used as part of the requirements for clubs and schools to achieve FA Charter Standard. It will also allow access to membership of the FA Coaches Association (FACA).

What will I learn?

How to:

  • Demonstrate an ability to safely organise and supervise football activities,
  • Promote and establish working relationships and high standards of behaviour with players, coaches, parents, and officials, in the overall development of football,
  • Demonstrate the basics of football technique, and the key coaching points,
  • Demonstrate an ability to identify and adapt effective football activities and sessions for a variety of different age groups,
  • Demonstrate an awareness of further personal development opportunities in football, including coaching, sports therapy, administration, and officiating.

Assessments?
Candidates will be required to deliver a short pre-prepared practical coaching session from the Level 1 syllabus, during which you will be observed by an external assessor. Candidates are also required to complete a number of theory tasks with the internal assessor.
