Do you have street skills?

9:51 AM, Thursday, 07 August 08.

As part of the Paint the Town Red activities, planned for Saturday 30 August 2008, the Cumberland FA and E.ON are looking to run a street football tournament for Under 12 & Under 14 boy’s teams at St Joseph’s School, Workington.

Street football is a small sided version of association football, with less rules and more emphasis on skill and technique than physique and fitness. There are many versions of the game, but this tournament will be 4’a’side with no goalkeepers and squads of up to 6.

Due to the game being slightly different to the traditional approach you don’t need to be part of a recognised team to enter, in fact you only need 3 other mates and you can get involved.

Entry is free with the under 12’s tournament running from 10.00am-12.00pm, while the under 14’s event will be in the afternoon from 1.00pm-3.00pm.
* Please note that to be eligible for the U12’s you must be going into Year 6 or 7;
U14’s must be going into Year 8 or 9 when you return to school in Sept 08

Each participant will receive a goody bag from the sponsors E.ON, which will be presented by Liverpool and Manchester United legends, Phil Neal and Mike Duxbury, who will be attending the Paint the Town Red day.

As well as the tournament the school facility will also play host to a Shoot the O challenge. The inflatable E.ON sign, which has been used as part of the build up to both the FA Cup and Senior England Internationals at Wembley, will give youngsters and adults the chance to test their shooting skills.
