Scott has been with Sunderland since 1999, working first on a part-time basis with the club’s academy players. This role saw Scott overseeing the fitness development of players from U10 right through to U16 and youth levels.
In 2006 Scott was appointed as the clubs fitness coach/sports scientist. He now works predominantly with the first and reserve teams, as part of Roy Keane’s backroom staff, who have overseen the clubs promotion to, and subsequent survival in the Premier League.
The session started with an overview of the components of fitness and some practical guidelines on how to develop each specific area. This included some examples from the work that Scott has performed with the professional players at the club, and included some interesting, informative, and thought provoking suggestions for the coaches to consider.
The second part of the session saw theory put into practice, as Scott put youth players from Carlisle City through a number of sessions to highlight the work he has undertaken with the different age groups and players at the club.
The session seemed to be a huge success with coaches walking away with more knowledge and some practical drills to incorporate fitness into the training at their own clubs.

The next session for the Coaches Association will be on the 20th August 2008 and will be delivered by Eric Kinder; Carlisle United’s reserve and youth team manager.
Eric, who was manager of the youth team during last seasons thrilling FA Youth Cup campaign, will deliver a practical session to show some of his favourite possession drills.
The session will be in Carlisle from 6.30pm – 8.30pm with more details to follow.
