Girls School League Kicks off in Carlisle

3:40 PM, Wednesday, 22 October 08.

The first day of competition for the Girls School League took place in Carlisle last week with schools from the local area taking part.

The School Leagues are now in its third year with the winners of the Carlisle round going on to represent the area in the County Finals following the second competition day in March 2009.

20 teams from seven secondary schools took part in the day at the Sheepmount with the wet weather staying away for the afternoon.

Three separate competitions were run with Caldew, Richard Rose Morton Academy, William Howard, QEGS, Trinity, Richard Rose Central Academy and Samuel Kings taking part in the under 12’s, under 13’s and under 15 age groups to fit in with the schools competition framework.

Following the afternoon of football, William Howard topped the group for the under 12’s, Trinity are in pole position for the under 13’s while Richard Rose Central and Richard Rose Morton Academy are joint top of the under 15’s. The next competition date in March 2009 is nicely poised with plenty to play for.

Special thanks go to the sports leaders from Richard Rose Central Academy, Trinity and Richard Rose Morton Academy who helped run the event.

Competitions will also be taking place in the West and South of Cumbria to determine the opponents in the County Finals.
