The FA Regional Talent Camp

11:57 AM, Thursday, 16 October 08.

Nine footballers from the Cumbria Girls Centre of Excellence squads were invited to attend The FA’s Regional Talent Camp on Saturday 11 October 2008 at Crewe. This is the second time players from the Cumbrian Centre have been involved in the regional camp.

The camps have been set up to further enhance talent identification which could prove a stepping stone to the International scene giving players in Cumbria the chance to make the next step on the player pathway.

The girls made the long journey down south to represent Cumbria following recommendations by the coaches and the Centre Director Ian Bateman. Chloe Henderson, Steffi Hardy, Rio Hardy, Yasmine Swarbrick and Amy Brown made up the contingent of under 14 players while the under 16’s were represented by Faye Comber, Katy Perfect, Hannah While and Becky Rush.

The girls joined players from Everton, Liverpool, Crewe Alexandra, Blackburn and Curzon Ashton at the North West camp. During the morning the girls were involved in coaching sessions led by Centre of Excellence coaches, while England scouts looked on. After a very healthy lunch and some team bonding in the canteen, the girls were put into teams and played a series of matches before departing for home.

The girls gave 100% throughout the day and made the Cumbria Centre proud. The day was a great opportunity for the girls and the experience should give them plenty to work on for the coming season.

The regional camp meant that there were no fixtures for the Centre, but the remaining players were put through their paces at a training session at Frenchfields. Having played three matches against opposition from Crewe (twice) and Liverpool, the coaches had plenty to work on with the girls not involved this weekend in the four age groups.

More fixtures are coming up for the Centre, with Liverpool and Everton the next to visit Penrith.
