RESPECT is The FA’s direct response to the clear message that football must improve standards of behaviour – both on and off the field.
This message came through loud and clear, from the 37,000 participants who fed back as part of the ‘Your Game, Your Say’ consultation events.
Behaviour was – and is – the biggest concern. Whether it is the abuse and intimidation towards referees, or the unacceptable behaviour of spectators, RESPECT is aimed at helping all to work together to change negative attitudes, and hopefully halt the drop out of referees.
The programme includes 4 practical steps to try and improve behaviour on the pitch and on the sidelines in aforementioned leagues.
However the scheme is a whole game approach, which means that players and coaches within the 3 youth leagues will be following similar procedures and adhering to the same principles as those within the Premier League.
The 4 steps for the youth leagues are:
1. Codes of Conduct – for all players, coaches and referees
2. Designated Spectators’ Areas – 2m away from touchline
3. Captain Taking Responsibility – for team’s behaviour;
assisting the ref
4. Referee Managing the Game – increased support through
training
To support the scheme The Football Foundation have given youth leagues and their affiliated clubs an opportunity to purchase FA approved Touchline Respect Zone Barrier at half price. These barriers can be seen at www.respectzone.com.
The RESPECT programme is also open to Adult Leagues, for further information on how to sign up to the campaign, please contact us on 01900 872310 or e-mail Secretary@CumberlandFA.com
