The past season has been the accumulation of considerable hard work done behind the scenes by the local Clubs, Schools and the League. A number of successful School-Club Link programmes last year gave 8 teams the support to offer girls the opportunity to play football in a League.
All Clubs in the League were FA Charter Standard, with Silloth, Parton United, Workington Juniors, Bransty Rangers, Windscale, Whitehaven Amateurs and Cleator Moor Celtic competing for the chance to be the first ever winners of the league.
Congratulations go to Whitehaven Amateurs who were the inaugural winners of the League. The League was highly competitive with all Clubs contributing to a successful season and giving the opportunity to nearly 100 girls to play regular Club football.
The Clubs also took part in the Cumberland FA Charter Standard Festival in Penrith over the bank holiday weekend. This was the first opportunity for the girls to be involved in the largest free festival in the County, and brought 52 girls teams together to take part in the fun event.
The hard work does not stop here for the girls Clubs in the League. Next season, the League will be offering more girls the opportunity to play with an extra age group at Under 14’s, as well as Under 12’s.
This means girls who are currently in Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 in School will have an opportunity to play football locally.
All Clubs are looking to recruit more players to their teams. To find a local Club in the area please visit the following link:
