Now set to be extended, more women in Cumberland can enjoy informal, fun football – with a glass of Prosecco on offer at the end!

Taking place at Egremont Rugby Union’s Astroturf, sessions are held on Friday evenings between 7.00pm and 8.00pm – what better way to start the weekend?

Female participants must be over the age of 18, with sessions costing £3 for an hour of football, followed by a well-earned glass of sparkling Prosecco.

Ray Sempill, Football Development Officer at the County FA, said: “We started Prosecco Soccer as a format of the game that all women could access, whether they’ve played before or not. The relaxed environment was deliberately put in place to attract anyone who fancies a kick about. Following the success of our initial sessions, we are now looking to host more events across the county.”

Laura, who has been enjoying the initial sessions, said: “It is a really fun way to get fit.”

Meanwhile, a fellow participant – Kimberley – said: “I first started playing football a few years ago, but wanted to start playing again for some time now. Because of working shifts, I put it off. Prosecco Soccer was perfect for me. It’s flexible, friendly and it would be great to maybe even get a team going off the back of it!”

No previous football experience is required; just turn up, have a kick about and enjoy! This is also a great way of getting back involved in football if you have been out of practice for a while.
