SSE Wildcats Is Heading To Cumberland

Following a successful pilot of SSE Wildcats Centres across the country during the 2016/17 season, Cumberland clubs have the opportunity to apply to be part of the programme for the 2017/18 season – with the application process helping to provide even more groups with a chance to grow girls’ football in the local area.

The application window opens on Friday 1 December and closes on Monday 8 January.

Jess Nelson, Football Development Officer at Cumberland FA, said: "We are extremely excited to be launching a brand-new FA Wildcats programme in Cumberland. The programme has had such a fantastic response in other areas of the country and we’re pleased to be jumping on board.

"The project offers a great platform for clubs, schools, youth groups to deliver a brand-new girls football programme in their local community with access to an abundance of resources, funding and branding.

‘We look forward to welcoming interested applicants to our online webex on Tuesday 5 December at 7.00pm; please contact me for an invitation."

Key elements of the SSE Wildcats programme are highlighted below:

-    SSE Wildcats Centres are weekly girls-only sessions for girls aged 5-11 years. The sessions are focused around fun, fitness and making friends.

-    Sessions will commence from the week beginning Monday 9 April. A minimum if 16 weekly sessions are expected to be delivered; however as high demand to be part of these sessions is anticipated, we encourage all applicants to plan with an intention of extending these sessions as a continual offering of girls’ football.

-    Funding and equipment is provided; however applicants who can demonstrate some matching or ‘in-kind’ funding will be prioritised to ensure the investment goes into sustainable football opportunities.

-    The pilot phase saw grassroots clubs, educational institutes and professional club community trusts involved in the delivery of SSE Wildcats Centres. We welcome applications from groups in all of these categories in addition to those outside these groups – to ensure Wildcats Centres meet all community needs and provide greater opportunities for girls to play football.
