Get A Sweat On With Soccercise

Cumberland Football Association has teamed up with DW Fitness in Carlisle to deliver a brand-new exercise class specifically designed to help...
Taking place every Wednesday as part of a six-week pilot, Soccercise is a one-hour long session running between 7.00pm and 8.00pm at DW Fitness Carlisle. Sessions cost £5 each or you can book four sessions for £15. Footballs are provided and you don’t need any specialist kit – just trainers and comfortable clothing.

Soccercise has become a hugely popular initiative across the country and is perfect for all levels of fitness. Whilst Soccercise help introduce women to football or re-familiarise those who haven’t played for a while, the main focus is using it as an alternative way to keep fit. As any player will tell you, fitness for football is a very unique standard of fitness!

The inclusion of a football provides addition co-ordination and core stability to exercises that will be familiar to many, whilst using them also develops skill and confidence of working with a football.

Jess Nelson, Women and Girls’ Football Development Officer, said: “We’re really pleased with how Soccercise has initially been received. The first couple of sessions have seen a mixture of women attend; from mums and aunties who don’t go to the gym regularly, to those that are frequent visitors to DW Fitness.

“Our aim is to get as many women as possible interested in getting involved in football. This project fits really well as an alternative entry programme; something different from your everyday five-a-side.”
