Dementia Friendly Walking Football Session

Dementia friendly Walking Football is coming to Cumbria.

In partnership with Botcherby Community Centre, Cumberland FA is to host a Walking Football session to those aged over 50, providing an opportunity for the county’s more senior players to enjoy football in a dementia-friendly environment.

Taking place at the Botcherby Community Centre on Friday 27 October from 1.30pm, the session will take place in the centre’s sports hall, with the kick-about followed by cake and cuppa.

The session costs just £2 per-person and is open to all men and women aged 50+, with football played in a dementia-friendly setting.

Activities are designed to improve balance, circulation and general health.

Ray Sempill, Football Development Officer at Cumberland FA, said: “We have been working closely with the Dementia Action Alliance in Carlisle to bring a dementia friendly football session to the county, to add to the range of activities available to older people and those with dementia.

“We hope that these sessions will help get more people active in the local area, as well as creating a new social group for those involved.”
