Powerchair Football – Get Involved in Cumberland

Cumberland FA has teamed up with Cumbria Wheelchair Sports to provide some exciting opportunities, which are brand-new for wheelchair users in Cumberland.

On Sunday 24 September, Cumberland FA will be running a Powerchair Football taster session for people aged from eight all the way through to 80 with physical disabilities, such as Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, spinal injuries and Muscular Dystrophy to name a few.

Boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen – all are welcome to attend this fantastic FREE taster session.

The session takes place at Richard Rose Morton Academy in Carlisle between 1.00pm and 3.00pm.

Powerchairs will be supplied on the day, so make sure that you come down and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity that allows wheelchair users to have a go at playing the beautiful game.

We’re also delighted to announce that we will be hosting a Coaching Powerchair Football course on Sunday 17 September between 9.00am and 4.30pm at the same venue.

This course has been generously funded by Cumbria Wheelchair Sports – and is FREE to participants (parents/coaches) on a first come first served basis. If you would like to get involved, you MUST book in advance by emailing ray.sempill@cumberlandfa.com.

NOTE – If you do not attend on the day after registering your place (without making Cumberland FA aware by Thursday 14 September), you will be asked to pay the usual course fee of £50.

After the Powerchair Football taster session, Cumberland FA will be hosting fortnightly sessions every other Sunday at Richard Rose Morton Academy.

Ray Sempill, Football Development Officer at Cumberland FA, said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for us. We have been hoping to set up some more wheelchair football clubs for a while now. Thanks to some excellent fundraising work by Cumbria Wheelchair Sports, we are now in position to deliver sessions in Carlisle. We hope to have a centre up in West Cumbria soon, which will mean we have three centres in Cumberland alone for players to access.”
