The FA National Youth Futsal Cup

Futsal Weekender for County competition

Earlier this month, 57 girl’s teams from across Cumberland competed in the Cumberland round of The FA National Youth Futsal Cup.

A full weekend of Futsal was needed to crown the Cumberland Champions in the Under 10, 12, 14 and 16 age groups, the competition now in its 8th year was once again held at the Sands Centre in Carlisle.

Over the previous 8 years, Futsal has become an integral part of the girls programme for both the Carlisle Glass Longhorn Youth League and the West Cumbria Youth League with the age groups going indoors during the winter months to play the small sided format of the game. The support from the team’s coaches and the league’s has been evident in the continued growth of the competition over the years.

Saturday 5 January saw the Under 12 and Under 16 competition while the Under 10 and Under 14 teams took over the Sands Centre on Sunday 6 January. The competition weekend was supported by Cumberland registered Referees who oversaw the action.

Each team played a number of fixtures in their group, before progressing to the Semi-Finals and Final of each age group. Over the weekend there was some top quality Futsal played across the age groups.

Craig Lewis, Football Development Manager commented “It was fantastic to see so many girls teams coming along to take part over the weekend. The commitment from the clubs and teams has been excellent once again and just goes to show how much the girls enjoy taking part. The futsal on display showed just why the futsal programme is so important as it provides a platform for the girls to showcase their skills in a different format but also providing another opportunity for the girls to enjoy playing Futsal. On behalf of Cumberland FA, we’d like to thank all the teams that took part, the age group winners and we wish them the best of luck for the regional finals.”

Cumberland FA’s County Cup Goalpost Sponsor MH Goals delivered the goals in time for the weekend.
