Cumberland FA wrapped up its Girls Primary School Football Programme by hosting its final Primary School Festival of the 2017/18 season at Harraby Sports Complex on Wednesday 23 May, with over 130 female players getting involved on the day.
The event formed part of Cumberland FA’s Girls Primary School Football Programme, which enables school teams to play friendly festivals on a monthly basis.
Girls have been supported by Cumberland FA throughout the season, with many taking the opportunity to train in the county’s brand-new SSE Wildcats Centres. Next season, the County FA plans to roll out a new Year 2 and 3 Girls Festival Programme across the Cumberland region, offering even more opportunities for girls at entry level.
Jess Nelson, Cumberland FA Football Development Officer, said: “Wednesday’s Primary School Festival was a fantastic advert for the female game. Over 130 young female players in Years 5 and 6 took part, many of whom hadn’t played the game before. That speaks volumes.
“We’re really pleased with how the schools have embraced our programme over the last season and how they’ve encouraged girls of all abilities to get involved in the game.”
