Calthwaite Women Providing Opportunities for Female Players
Calthwaite Women are the latest opportunity for women to get involved in playing football in Cumberland.
Beginning with a kick about in Penrith, the sessions have now moved to Calthwaite with the football club supporting the ladies by offering the facilities for a kick around to get more women involved throughout the summer!
The sessions are open to women aged 18+ and no experience is needed!
The group are keen to welcome women whether they have played football or not! The sessions are a relaxed kickabout and will be continuing throughout the summer months just north of Penrith.
Helen Aitchison, Football Development Officer for Cumberland FA, commented: “We’re delighted to see another opportunity for women to play football in a friendly and relaxed environment. When some of the ladies came along to our Over 35s Turn Up and Play session in Penrith, it showed the desire to get something up and running without the pressure of creating a team initially. To support the game to grow we’re encouraging more Just Play Centre’s across the County to support women to turn up and play on their terms and to fit into their busy schedules.
Of course, we don’t know where this Just Play centre will lead and perhaps in time a team will be created, but for now the foundations are being made whilst creating chances for women to play football.”
The group applied for a Just Play Centre, supported by England Football to support the administration and promotion of the sessions. The sessions are included on the England Football ‘Find Football’ search so women can now find the sessions and register online.
Last week 15 ladies turned up for a kickabout with players traveling from other areas of the county to get involved as well as local women. The weekly sessions are a fantastic opportunity for women to return to football or have a go for the first time!
