Disability opportunities for over 100 players thanks to Komatsu sponsored programme

Huge thanks to Komatsu for their continued support!

It’s been a busy week for Cumberland FA’s Komatsu sponsored Disability football programme, with the Adult and Junior League events as well as a Day Service event providing playing opportunities for more than 100 players from across the county.

Adult Komatsu Cumberland Ability Counts League

Following the launch event in May, the Adult section of the Komatsu Cumberland Ability Counts League began last week with teams from across the County playing in the Premiership, Championship 1 and 2 and the Super League divisions. The divisions were confirmed ahead of the event and teams will be playing in the following divisions:

Premiership - Carlisle Spartans Unique Ability, Carlisle City Deaf, Border City Greens and Workington AFC Hoppers

Championship 1 – Carlisle Reivers Cheetahs, Workington AFC Marra’s and Carlisle Spartan Spears

Championship 2 – Carlisle Spartan Assasins, Whitehaven Warriors, CUFC Community Trust Blue and Workington AFC Vulcans

Super League - CUFC Community Trust, Denton Lynx and Penrith AFC Blue Stars

The results will be uploaded and the league tables updated in due course.

As our guests for the evening, new sponsors Komatsu Forest Ltd enjoyed the football spectacle and also provided each player with a bag full of Komatsu goodies!

Ray Sempill, Cumberland FA’s Football Development Officer, said: “The Disability teams provide regular playing opportunities for pan disability players across Cumberland and they continue to grow providing more age groups and more opportunities thanks to their fantastic volunteers, both on and off the pitch.

Over the last couple of events, we have also welcomed our new sponsors Komatsu Forest Ltd who have shown fantastic support since coming on board to support the programme for Junior and Adult players across Cumberland.”

Day Service Event

This week, teams from across Cumberland travelled to Penrith to play in an event organised for Day Service providers.

Teams from Hensingham, Cockermouth, West House Workington and Denton Lynx participated in the small sided event at the leisure centre in Penrith, with a fantastic atmosphere providing a fun and positive environment for the players to enjoy their football.

Junior Komatsu Cumberland Ability Counts League

Bee Unique, Carlisle Reivers, Penrith AFC, Whitehaven AFC and Workington Super Diamonds entered the second Junior event of the season at the weekend at Lakes College, Workington. The weather forecast did not deter the teams and there was plenty of game time for the Under 12’s.

This month, the Darren Buchanan Values Shield was presented to Workington Super Diamonds who demonstrated fair play and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Referee Ross commented on the event “It all went amazing. Lots of smiles and positive football played. Workington Super Diamonds won the Darren Buchanan Values Shield as they shared roles like goalkeeping and captaincy, they looked out for one another, they involved one another and they are developing as a team!”

During the Junior programme this season there are also opportunities for Under 8, Under 16  and Under 21 players to get involved.

Stephen Bellas, Managing Director of Komatsu Forest Ltd commented on the partnership: "Komatsu Forest is honoured to sponsor and be a part of the success of the Ability Counts League, supporting the remarkable players in both the junior and adult sections. The commitment and skills displayed by the players, along with the dedication of the coaches and support, have been truly incredible to witness. We look forward to continuing our support for this fantastic league in the years to come."
