CEO Great North Run Musical Challenge

Cumberland FA CEO, Ben Snowdon, is running the Great North Run and is asking for your support in raising money for a grassroots player’s chosen...
“Usually I would not ask people for sponsorship but this is for a cause and more specifically somebody who is very close to me” explained Ben,

“Thomas “Titch” Froggat has been a player at my club (St Bees) since he was 8 years of age and has been part of the Sunday League side that I have been involved with since the age of 16.  In 2010, Tom developed an undiagnosed brain condition with symptoms similar to Alzheimer’s which meant that he required 24 hour care.

Unfortunately during the last few weeks Tom’s condition has deteriorated and he is currently being cared for in the north east at the RVI and will soon be moved to a hospice.”

As well as being a committed and talented footballer Tom has always loved music, and so since 2010 Annie Mawson's Sunbeams Music Trust has provided Tom and his parents with dedicated support and care.

The charity are currently building a new £2 million Centre which will be the new home for Sunbeams Music Trust and enable the charity to support and develop 40-plus projects for 1,400 disabled and disadvantaged children and adults throughout Cumbria and the North West. Each of the rooms will be dedicated to one of the charity’s beneficiaries and any money raised here will go towards “Tom's Room”.

Anybody wishing to donate can visit http://www.justgiving.com/Benjackrun or can text between £1 to £10 by texting BEJA73 to 70070 followed by a £ and their chosen amount to donate.

Keeping with a musical theme Ben is also giving anybody who donates £10 or over the chance to be entered into a draw to choose his outfit for the race.

“I am starting to get a little worried,” said Ben, “however anybody who donates £10 or more will be able to suggest somebody or a famous outfit from the world of music and if their suggestion is picked out of the hat then I will run as that person or in that outfit.  If it gets people donating then that’s great but so far there appears to be a lot of people who like Katie Perry and Cheryl Cole”.
