Female coaching session

New workshop dates added to get MORE women involved!

We’re delivering TWO Stepping Over The Sideline Workshops this summer

As attention begins to look towards next season, we’re delivering TWO Stepping Over The Sideline Workshops this summer to support women who may be interested in getting more involved in grassroots football.

Each season, there are more female coaches across the County supporting the grassroots game. The impact of women leading or assisting teams cannot be underestimated, acting as role models to the players and paving the way for girls to see that they themselves can become coaches of the future.

The FREE Stepping over the Sidelines workshop is designed to offer mums, female guardians, helpers, assistants and young leaders (14+) the opportunity to have a first look at how you might be able to get involved in football.

As a spectator of football across Cumberland, have you ever thought to yourself, “I don’t know about football because I’ve never played”, or “I don’t watch football so I don’t know any rules”? Well in this workshop we will explore all of the skills, attributes and knowledge that YOU DO have that can be transferable to football, along with the reasons why children play football.

If you’re unsure, don’t take our word for it... Tammy, who attended the recent course in Carlisle, gave us some feedback “Before the course I had never played, hardly kicked a ball. Two hours with you guys and I have completed the safeguarding and Playmaker courses and am looking to help out at Wildcats.”

Football Development Officer, Helen Aitchison, said: “We want to encourage more women to make that ‘step over the sidelines’ from encouraging spectator (and most likely biggest fan!) to become a vital cog in the football side of things, whether that is by supporting current volunteer coaches and reducing their workload or having the confidence to be the coach themselves.”

There is also ongoing support for female coaches via the Female Coach Development Group alongside the Cumberland FA’ Coaches Community.
