Fred Conway, Chairman of Cumberland FA and The Cumberland County League commented: “Football was so important to Andrea and her family. She played for numerous Women’s teams including Windscale, Workington Reds Ladies and more recently had been involved with Allerdale Wildcats and had been helping to coach a local grassroots team where her son had been training.
Her husband, David, is a referee and therefore well known around the grassroots game. We were all shocked and saddened when we learnt of Andrea’s passing last year. We want to pay our respects and hopefully, in some small way, support her family and loved ones by honouring her memory, her life and her love of the game.”
Cumberland FA are also delighted to be working in partnership with Every Life Matters – Cumbria who promote suicide safer communities and provide bereavement support across Cumbria.
Fred continues: “As an organisation we are acutely aware that suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 and that women are roughly, three times more likely to attempt suicide. Therefore, as a large percentage of our members may be impacted by this issue, we hope to raise awareness of the fact that talking about suicide can save lives and that’s its ok to reach out and to ask for and ultimately get help.”
