Saturday 16 February 2013
Association of Northern Counties
Sheffield & Hallamshire FA v Cumberland FA
Staveley Miner’s Welfare Ground

Danny Hodgson from Whitehaven AFC was included in the squad for the first time.

The visitors started the game very brightly and put the home defence under a lot of pressure especially from set pieces where Josh Simpson and Luke Close’s deliveries were of the highest quality. Although Sheffield’s Connor Blunt went close in the 36th minute the visitors dominated the midfield area of the field with Jordan Little and Jamie Hope prominent.

The teams went in for their half time cup of tea on equal terms.

Half time Score: Sheffield & Hallamshire FA 0 v 0 Cumberland FA

The second half of the game was very similar to the first with Cumberland dominating play but failing to trouble Richard Taylor in the Sheffield goal. Sheffield were always dangerous on the break but both Peter Allison and Jordan Little both excelled in the visitors defence.

In the fifth minute of injury time a miss timed tackle resulted in the deflection landing at the feet of Connor Brunt whose shot beat Jack Boyd in the Cumberland goal.

Cumberland fully deserved to get something out of the game and were very unlucky to leave the pitch without any rewards for their efforts.

Full time Score: Sheffield & Hallamshire FA 1 v 0 Cumberland FA
