FA Advanced Coaching Centre for Girls returns to Cumberland

Cumberland FA is delighted to announce details for this year’s Girls Advanced Coaching Centre Programme

The County FA has once again secured funding through The FA to assist talented girls to access an enhanced training and games programme.

What is an Advanced Coaching Centre?

The FA Girls’ Advanced Coaching Centres (ACC) are part of a specifically designed programme to support the development and progression of players initially in the south west and east of England, and now in Cumberland.  Due to the geographical challenges and limited elite playing opportunities in these areas, the pathway has been adapted in these specific regions to ensure it is accessible as well as supportive and educational.

Who is the ACC for?

The Cumberland FA Girls ACC is designed to work with girls who show potential in all 4 areas of the FA’s Long Term Player Development Model (LTPD). More information on the LTPD Model can be found by clicking on the link below.

Can I still play for my Club?

Players are permitted to remain in grassroots club football and participate in a grassroots fixture programme, but ACCs will then provide supplementary support for selected players with an additional night’s training a week and a minimum of six fixtures a season against other ACCs / RTCs or identified Charter Standard boys’ teams. This pathway ensures that the players’ development, health and well-being is at the forefront of the programme.

What progression is available in an ACC?

Players who show elite potential from Advanced Coaching Centres are eligible to be selected and attend Regional Development Programmes, National Performance Camps and England camps.

Where will the ACC be?

The Cumberland FA ACC will be based at Harraby 3G Sports Complex, Carlisle
and operate for 29 weeks starting mid-September 2019 through to May 2020; catering for Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 female players.

Training will be on Friday evenings between 6pm and 8pm for all age groups.

Craig Lewis, Football Development Manager said, "We are delighted to secure the ACC funding for a second successive year. The FA have granted the license following the successful delivery of the 18/19 programme.

Cumberland FA, along with Nick Wharton (Centre Director) and our Coaching staff are committed to trying to provide the best training and games programme they can to ensure the girls are given the opportunity to thrive, but also be challenged in line with their own individual player development plan.

Nick and the staff are eager to get going with this year’s trial process and are looking forward to seeing some of the players from last year, but also those new players who wish to apply to take part in the trial’s for this year and potentially gain a place for the coming season."

How can I access an ACC?

Access to the ACC is gained through a trial process; Please note:

- Those involved in the Cumberland FA Player Development Centre last season (18/19) have already been directly invited back to register for trial (the email was sent out on 22/08/19).
