Fred Conway

A period of applause in memory of Fred Conway

Join us as we recognise Fred’s tremendous contribution to local football

In memory of the late Fred Conway, we are asking all of our affiliated clubs and teams to take part in a period of applause at games over the coming weekend of the 19th and 20th November, or at your next opportunity should you not have a game scheduled or it is postponed, to remember and recognise the tremendous contribution Fred made to local football.

Due to his association with the refereeing fraternity we are also asking all match officials to wear black armbands, as most recently Fred had played an active and instrumental role in supporting the development of refereeing within the county. This was an area of the game that he was extremely passionate about.

Clubs are welcome to also wear black armbands should they wish to.

Fred was well known within the local game, due mainly to his various roles within a number of local leagues across the County including having previously been the chair within The Workington & District Sunday League and The West Cumbria Youth Football League, as well as continuing to fulfil the role of Secretary and Chair of The Egremont & District Sunday League and also Chair of The Cumberland County League.

From 2004, he has acted as Chair of the County FA and more recently became The FA Representative to council for Cumberland.

This is an opportunity for all to pay their respects and show our appreciation to someone who game so much to the grassroots game in Cumberland.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
