Get into Refereeing! Summer Referee Course for Adults Confirmed

The course is to be held on Tuesday 20 and 27 June 2023

In partnership with the local leagues, Cumberland FA are delighted to confirm an additional Referee course in June to support the recruitment of match officials for the older age groups and into adult football.

The Carlisle Glass Longhorn Youth Football League require additional older referees to cover the Sunday fixtures in the Under 15, Under 16 and Under 18 Divisions for next season. The course, for anyone aged 18 and over is the perfect opportunity to get qualified and begin refereeing for the 2023-24 season.

With games predominantly played on a Sunday afternoon in the Youth League, this course would suit retired players, coaches, parents or current players aged 18+ interested in getting into refereeing across local football.

DATES* - Tuesday 20 and 27 June 2023
TIMES – 6 - 10pm
VENUE - Harraby 3G, Carlisle

The course cost is £130 and includes a whistle, flags, red and yellow cards, CFA referee registration, 2-years membership of the Referees’ Association, and your first FA DBS application fee (worth £10).

There is support available from the Carlisle Glass Longhorn Youth Football League for the cost of the course for attendees completing the course and officiating a set number of Sunday games for the CGLYFL.

Please contact the CGLYFL Match Official’s appointments secretary Lee Tedford on 07821120745 or via email for further information.

Scott Taylor, Referee Development Officer for Cumberland FA, commented: “We are keen to work with the local leagues to aid the recruitment and retention of referees across grassroots football and we’re delighted to get this course organised ahead of the new season. Many of the attendees on our Referee courses are under 18 so they begin their referee journey in the younger age groups and work their way up as they get older. Alongside the league we’ve identified the need to support an adult only course to recruit older match officials to support the game at the higher end of the age groups and into adult football.”

*Attendance on both dates is essential

Please note that spaces are limited to 12 (adults only) so we are not accepting bookings from anyone Under 18 for this referee course.
