New West Cumberland Sunday League set to start!
As we move into season 2023/24, Sunday League teams in the west of the county will compete in a brand-new West Cumberland Sunday League!
This exciting new venture will see teams from the Egremont and District Sunday League and Workington and District Sunday League join forces in a merger to support the existing structure and develop new opportunities for players in the west of the county.
A potential merger was first brought to the attention of Cumberland FA in July 2022, with the west-based leagues keen to support their teams and future proof Sunday football for their players. Following a number of initial meetings with the respective leagues, actions were agreed to explore the possibility of the merger.
Excitement is now building as the division structure and start date for the West Cumberland Sunday League is confirmed. Please see below:

Ray Sempill, Cumberland FA’s Football Development Officer, said:
“We are very pleased with the outcome of this process. The overall number of Sunday teams in West Cumbria has increased by two from last season.
"With 19 teams entered, the management committee were able to put together what look like two evenly matched divisions. If anyone would like to get involved, please get in touch with league secretary: Neil McCrickard - westcumberlandsundayleague@outlook.com.
We are looking forward to getting kicked off this Sunday, and we would like to wish all the teams luck for the season."
