Sunday Cup Final

Sunday Cup Final Preview

Attention now turns to the Sunday competition for our fifth final of 2022/23

Following a busy week of Senior Finals with Workington AFC’s emphatic 9-1 win in the Fred Conway Cumberland Cup Final and the Women’s County Cup Final going to penalties with Carlisle United Ladies winning 3-2 (2-2 AET), we’re expecting an entertaining Sunday Cup Final!

The Sunday Cup Final is a repeat of last year’s finale, where Inter Pirelli equalled the record of Mirehouse AFC for 3 wins in a row following their win on penalties after the game finished 2-2 (AET).

Both teams were formed in 2013. Scotby FC will be making their second consecutive appearance in the County Cup Final scoring 13 goals on their way including an away win against 2020 runners up Northside in the Semi-Final.

Inter Pirelli won the Sunday Cup in 2019-20 and 2021-22 on penalties and in 2018-19 against Bransty Rangers in extra time. So we’re expecting another closely fought final on Sunday. Their route to the final this year has seen them score 30 goals in 5 ties!

The DETAILS

Sunday 7 May 2023

Kick Off: 11:00am

Inter Pirelli v Scotby

Venue: Gillford Park, Carlisle City FC

Admission: £3 and £2

Referee Ben Whitfield takes charge of the Sunday County Cup Final and is assisted by Colin Varty and Colin Heron with Waine Davidson as fourth official.

We’re can’t wait to welcome the two finalists, match officials, volunteers and guests in what should be a great advert for the local grassroots football game. The Sunday Cup always has a special atmosphere and whoever wins will make some history. If Inter Pirelli are crowned champions, they will break the record and become 4-in-a-row champions and if Scotby win, they will win their first County Cup!
