Perfect start! Female Coach Development Group is underway

The first session of the 2023/24 season recently took place

The first Female Coach Development Group session of the season took place in Penrith, with coaches from across the county attending.

The session focussed on ‘Environment Creation and Management’ with The FA’s Chris Welburn and FA Community Champion Georgia Smethurst delivering a practical session with players from Penrith AFC to bring some of the information to life.

Helen Aitchison from Cumberland FA said: “The evening was a great start to the Female Coach Development Group, with a number of coaches from the county making the effort to travel for the session and be rewarded with some quality CPD and plenty to think about and take back to their own sessions within their clubs.

A special mention to the players from Penrith AFC who supported the practical element of the session which helped bring some practices to life.

As a thank you for the coaches time, all those in attendance were put into a draw to win a mini tactic board! We’re delighted to confirm the winner was Helen Watson from Penrith AFC Juniors!

Throughout the 2023-24 season, we will continue to give opportunities for female coaches to connect, support and develop across the county, which will be a mixture of online and face to face delivery.

We’re encouraging established, as well as new or potential coaches across the county, to join the group whether you’re currently volunteering in grassroots football (girls or mixed football) or are keen to step over the side-lines and get involved!

There is also a closed Facebook group for information sharing and networking throughout the season.

CLUBS

If Clubs have a number of parents who are keen to get involved but don’t know where to start (or are not confident enough yet), we can deliver a free ‘Stepping Over the Sidelines’ workshop to start the ball rolling…. Get in touch!

This programme is designed to allow women with transferrable skills and expertise from other backgrounds to inspire change within the youth game. Your valuable insight from experiences outside of football may just be the advice our girls' youth team needs to progress their development and feel inspired to influence change within the game.

You don’t have to be an expert to help our girls' youth teams gain confidence, learn new skills, and absorb some of your knowledge to further their growth through coaching.
