Reds Retain the Cup

Congratulation to Workington St Joseph’s Reds who were crowned 2024 Marsh and Quay Cup Winners for the second season in a row!

Event 3 of the Cumberland FA Walking Football Programme for 2024 was played in the sunshine, with the annual Marsh & Quay Cup Competition taking place in Workington.

We welcomed 8 teams to Lakes College, Workington, with players traveling from across the county and beyond to take part:

- CUFC Green
- CUFC Blue
- Millom Ironworks
- Gretna
- Queen of the South
- Whitehaven Strollers
- Workington St Joseph’s Red
- Workington St Joseph’s Blue

The two group stages were close affairs with plenty of football played before the Semi-Finalists were decided.

In the first Semi- Final, Workington St Joseph's Reds and Gretna played out a 0 - 0 draw before the Reds won on penalties!

In Semi-Final 2, Workington St Joseph's Blue and CUFC Blue was also goalless. St Joseph’s Blue eventually won on penalties but it went to ‘sudden death’!

An all Workington St Joseph’s Final saw the Reds defeat the Blues 2 - 0 to retain The Marsh and Quay Cup in a closely fought match!

Congratulation to Workington St Joseph’s Reds who were crowned 2024 Marsh and Quay Cup Winners for the second season in a row!

Ray Sempill, Cumberland FA Football Development Officer, commented: “We’d like to say a huge thanks to all the teams who entered the first Cup competition of the 2024 season, which was played in a fantastic spirit! Focus returns next month to the League programme, but there is always opportunities for new teams to join us along the way with friendly fixtures organised when needed.”

Cumberland FA would also like to thank the match officials who supported the Cup competition!
