Walking with The Cumberland
Cumberland FA are delighted to confirm that 'The Cumberland' have come on board to support the brand new Walking Football League which begins this Sunday!
The league structure, which is a first for Cumberland, will give friendly and competitive playing opportunities for players aged 50+ across the County.
With league fixtures, festivals and Cup competitions, there is a format to suit everyone! The age groups are 50+ and 65+ giving more players the opportunity to play in an environment that suits their needs!
Becky Towns, The Cumberland’s Community Co-ordinator, commented, “Every year we support a wide variety of activities that provide opportunities for people that will benefit their physical and mental wellbeing. “So we’re really proud to be supporting the Cumberland FA’s Walking Football League over the next three years, and looking forward to going along and getting involved in these sessions to see the positive impact it is having to people from within our local communities.”
This Sunday 7 teams will be taking part at Lakes College in Workington in the first event of 2019 ahead of The FA People's Cup in Carlisle on Saturday 23 February.
Cumberland FA will also be providing a Walking Football Referees Course in February to support the format of the game.
Interested in getting involved? There are currently Walking Football Centres in Carlisle, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven and Wigton with a further two in the process of getting started!
