Helen's challenge

Dual Wheels, Dual Heels - Helen's Challenge is Complete!

A huge well done to our Football Development Officer Helen Aitchison, who has so far raised £190 for the British Heart Foundation

As part of the British Heart Foundation partnership, Cumberland FA’s Football Development Officer Helen Aitchison undertook a challenge in memory of our late Chairman Fred Conway to run 50 miles and cycle 50 miles during the 30 days of November.

The mileage was chosen to tie in with the 50 for 50 campaign, where Cumberland FA are encouraging 50 Teams (or Clubs) to raise or donate £50 during this football season to support the British Heart Foundation.

Helen said on completing the challenge on Thursday 30 November, with a total of 51.63 miles run and 52.13 miles cycled:

“I am delighted to get to the end of November having completed the challenge. But to be honest, not completing it was never an option, especially as it was in Fred’s memory and knowing I was and still am raising money for this vital cause also helped me get out of the door some days.”

Helen has so far raised £190 for the British Heart Foundation. If you would like to donate following the completion of the challenge, donations can be made here, which will support the Cumberland Football total towards the British Heart Foundation.

Cumberland FA’s partnership with the British Heart Foundation

During October Cumberland based Clubs got behind the partnership with the British Heart Foundation to raise the awareness of the 15 minute free CPR training through Revivr, as well as joining the 50 for 50 campaign to help raise funds for their ground breaking research.

Cumberland FA are delighted to welcome on board the following teams and clubs who are supporting the season long partnership with a number of Clubs already raising vital funds for the British Heart Foundation as part of the 50 for 50 campaign.

Thanks to Abbeytown Ladies, St Joseph’s Walking Football Team, Whitehaven AFC and Workington Reds Ladies who have added their fundraising to the Cumberland FA and BHF Just Giving Page.

Abbeytown Ladies raised £185 at one fixture selling teas and coffees while Workington Reds Ladies have donated £50 from a recent fixture with information included in their match day programme. St Joseph's Walking Football Team also donated following the recent Cumberland FA Walking Football League event with Whitehaven AFC donating £50 towards the total.

More Cumberland Teams and Clubs have signed up to the partnership to support throughout the season:

Allerdale Wildcats
Carlisle United Ladies FC
Dalston Black Reds FC and Dalston Junior Black Reds
Gillford Park FC
Maryport Amateurs FC
Penrith Football Club
Silloth AFC
Warwick Wanderers U9 Whites
Workington Juniors

Non-League Cumbria has also shown their support on ‘X’ to promote the important messages throughout the season.

50for50

Teams and Clubs can support this partnership in a way that suits them, because if everyone gives a little we can make a huge difference in Cumberland!

There are a variety of ways for teams and clubs to raise funds, whether this is selling pin badges, buying a drink for a loved one in the club bar, a sponsored ‘kick up challenge’, sponsored run or walk, bake sale, or donations at matches.

There will also be ‘spot prizes’ for any Clubs, organisations or individuals contributing to donations on the Cumberland FA and BHF Just Giving Page (this will be random and not based on the amount raised).

We are looking for 50 Teams (or Clubs) to raise or donate £50 during this football season to support the British Heart Foundation… Clubs can sign up to the 50 for 50 Campaign using the link below or individual teams can register their interest via email Media@CumberlandFA.com
